Locu is building technologies to disrupt local search ($35bn advertising market by 2014) by efficiently digitizing real-world content, through a novel combination of document analysis, machine learning and online human computation workflows. The resulting structured semantically annotated data sets will be made available through a set of APIs.
Founded by MIT graduates and computer science researchers, and nutured at the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship, Locu has the backing and support from awesome people like Hubspot's Dharmesh Shah, Twitter VP of Engineering Michael Abbott, Facebook co-founder Gil Elbaz, Google's Bruno Bowden, Cloudera founder Jeff Hammerbacher, MIT Professor Ed Roberts and former Googler Sep Kamvar.
